TRY OUTS
Open work out for both 12u and 13u players has been added for August 11th at the Tustin Sports Park. Any player wishing to try out is welcome to attend. Players who have tried out already is still welcome to attend. Remember players are welcome to try out as many times as they like until told other wise.
Any player that is interested in our program and wants to play on our fall team is welcome to try out. Fall Try Outs are going to be similar to a practice that we currently run. We will run the boys through our routine. This will allow us to get an idea of the players baseball skills and knowledge of the game. This will also allow the boys to get an idea of how our team does things and introduce our system. We will go over the basics in the infield, outfield, pitching, and hitting with some mental approaches. Each try out will vary. Players must attend a try out or a practice to participate in our program. Please email coach Adrian Mendoza at tustintitans@hotmail.com or contact at 714-488-0353 with any questions, conflicts and/or concerns. We can try to work something out.
We are looking for dedicated players and parents to become part of our program. We are looking for players who can attend just about all of our practices and games with few conflicts. Fall sport athletes are welcome to try out and participate in our fall program and should be the only exception with major schedule conflicts. We are looking for players who want to not only want make a high school team but want to be a major contributor. Players have the opportunity to get annual work with our program up to the age of 16 depending on progression and output.
Players should be fully dressed for baseball (baseball pants, belt. baseball socks, hat, and cleats) for the try out. Player should be dressed and ready to go at the start time. There will be a sign-in sheet when you arrive. Please fill out neatly so that there is no confusion on the contact information.
Players will be selected after every try out. We will only select 1 or 2 players until our final try out. Players have a better chance to make our team the more often they are seen. Both teams are looking to carry 14-18 player rosters. Fall sport athletes help allow for a higher roster due to availability issues. Large rosters allows us to challenge the boys, introduce competition for playing time, and run a proper practice to better prepare them for games. Roster that’s only carry 12 players isn’t a realistic setting compared to how it really be in high school with a roster from 16-25.
Certain players will have an extended try out period between September 20th – 29th. At this time our roster will be complete. Brand new players and parents are still welcome to contact us about interest in our program as we have try outs every season and may have opportunities in the current season.
Our 16u team is a little more select then our younger team. Please contact Coach Mendoza with interest in the team. This team is built for JV and Varsity caliber players. Depending on the success during season the team may play 18 and under to finish the season.
Please click on the calendar to view actual dates and times. Date will be added daily as the fall schedule is being composed. Click on 2009 and 2008 to get an idea of previous fall schedules. Players listed on our roster are committed players for the fall season. If the writing is underlined please click for additional information. Please check the calendar daily as there may be changes to the schedule.

For the second time after taking 2nd place in the two previous tries in a tournament, the Tustin Titans found a way to raise the Championship trophy on its 3rd try again. The Titans have taken 2nd place in the USSSA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP with its 14u team in the summer of 07 and 13u team in the Fall of 08. The Titans were 3-1 over the weekend and outscored its opponents 53-13 (24-0, 6-7, 7-5, and 16-1). The Titans let their presence be known right away by scoring 13 runs in the very first inning of the tournament. After that they never looked back. In the 2nd game it was a different story facing a solid pitcher. Trailing 2-1 going into the 6th, the Titans score 2 runs thanks to a Nate double and Brett single. Going into the bottom of the 6th the Titans were up 3-2 and after making an error and a balk the Titans were now trailing 7-3 with 3 outs remaining. Scoring 3 runs and with runners at the corner, the Owls 3rd baseman made his second nice play of the inning on two hard hit groundballs to end the game. The boys bounced back the next day taking a 3-1 lead in the 2nd inning thanks to a Nate single and Chris Rodriguez groundball. Tustin Titans take second 2nd place in USSSA State Championship in two years
The last time the Tustin Titans came close to winning a USSSA state championship was with its 14 and under summer team of 2007. They lost that contest 3-2. They found themselves there again on December 7th. The Titans were playing their 5th game in two days and were facing a team that they had beaten in their first game of the weekend.
Randell Kanumaru pitched 4 solid innings in the first meeting. Cole Major recorded the save in relief. The Titans beat the Toreros Baseball Club 8-6 with clutch hitting by Brett Mellon, Nate Bruno, and Randell Kanemaru.
In the semi-final game the Titans put on a nice display of old school baseball. Bunting, pitching, solid defense, aggressive base running and clutch plays. The Titans combined for a total of 5 drag bunts, 3 squeezes, 10 hits, 7 stolen bases, 7 opposing strikeouts and only 1 error. Derek Villalobos threw a 6 inning complete game, striking out 7 while only walking 1 and hitting 1 batter. Jake Hazard and Matt Pearson both had inning changing drag bunts. Grant Guyer had a big put out at the plate on a wild pitch in the 5th.
In the championship game, the Titans played two tough games going back and forth. The Toreros struck first by scoring 1 in the bottom of the 1st. The Titans answered the following inning and tied it. The Toreros answered back with another run and took the lead 2-1. The Titans again answered with a squeeze to tie it up at 2. In the 3rd, the Titans took a 4-2 lead. The Toreros answered right back and took the lead 5-4. In the 4th inning the titans again answered to tie it up at 5. In the bottom half of the inning the Toreros scored two more runs and never gave up the lead. They score 2 more in the 6th inning and ended winning the game by the score of 9-5. The Toreros brought in an excellent left handed pitcher with a dirty backdoor curveball who threw from the 4th inning on to shut the door.
The Titans scored a total of 23 runs, had 31 total hits, stole 15 bases, and had a team batting average of .373 and a .449 on base percentage on Sunday (3 games). Here are some of the team leaders for 3 games played on Sunday. Jake Hazard led the team with 7 stolen bases, Randell led the team with 5 hits and 5 runs, Chris Rodriguez had the highest batting average at .667 (4 for 6 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1 SB, .571 OBP).

3rd Time Is a Charm For Titans
The 3rd trip to Palm Springs was a charm for this group of Titan players. After taking six 2nd places finishes the past six years, the Tustin Titans finally captured the gold. The 15u Titans were not going settle for a 2nd place this year.
The Titans offense was led by Everett Allen (6-12, 3 RBI, 3 SB, 3R, 2BB), and Will Thompson (7-15, 2B, 3B, HR, 4 RBI, 3 R, BB). To clinch the championship, Nick Portillo threw a complete game gem to win 4-2. He threw 7 innings, with 4 H, 0 BB, and 13 K. With his pitching performance and key hits in other games, Nick was name tournament MVP.
The 15u Titans went 4-1 (6-2, 2-4, 4-3, 8-5, 4-2) during the Thanksgiving weekend. This gives the 15u Titans a 10-3-1 record for the fall, with a 1st, 2nd and a 3rd place finish in their three tournaments.
After seeing what the 15u team was capable of doing, the 13u Titans were inspired to duplicate. After struggling in their first tournament, the 13u team was determined to improve their play.
The Titans offense was led by Joseph Nam (5-17, 3 2B, HR, 2 HBP, 4 RBI, 8 SB, 5 R, 3 BB), Daniel Cavazos (6-13, 3 2B, HBP, 3 RBI, 3 SB, 6 R, 6 BB), and Andrew Magana (10-19, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, 2 SB, 4 R, 2 BB). The pitching was led by Jackson McKay (6 IP, 4K, 2 BB, 2R, 1ER, 4H) and Joseph Nam (8 IP, 6K, 2BB, 4R, 2ER, 5H).
After pulling off on 9-6 8 inning victory in the semi final game, the titans had their 2nd 1st place finish of the day in their sights. In a game that went back and forth, the Titans gave up the go a head run in the bottom of the 6th and lost 6-7. The 13u Titans went 3-3 (15-4, 6-2, 5-8, 4-11, 9-6, 6-7) in the tournament to capture a 2nd place finish. Joseph accepted tournament MVP honors afterwards.
For 13u club, all the hard work that has been spent in practices is starting to show in their play. For the 15u club, they continue to get better each tournament. Extending their streak of 9 straight top 3 finishes in tournaments (12 out 13 in 14 months, 5 1st, 3 2nd, and 4 3rd).

Tustin Titans Win Memorial Day Tourney
The Tustin Titans captured the Las Vegas Memorial Day Tournament by outscoring their opponents 49-19 and finishing with a record of 4-1.
They got a solid pitching performance from its entire staff, consisting of Daijiro Okada, Colin Welmon, Zach Nehrir, Devin Carrillo, and Josh Peterman. Everett Allen led the Titans offense, but was supported by an entire team effort.
The tournament MVP was Chris Garofalo. His timely hits and aggressive base running were big factors in the teams' success. The Titans finished the season with a 23-8 record.
